From a Mom and Pop Shop to a Multi-Million-Dollar Franchise
For 20 years before MY SALON Suite, Ken served in key executive-level management positions for companies in the oil and gas industry and throughout his career, his focus has been to drive business expansion and create jobs. When he and his wife Alanna had children, Alanna left the retail industry and stayed home to raise their family. When their youngest entered high school, Ken and Alanna talked about her returning to work and they began seeking out opportunities that would allow them a flexible lifestyle. They learned about the salon suite concept from Alanna’s uncle and they built their first MY SALON Suite in Metairie, LA in 2010.
Before construction was complete on their first, they signed a lease for their second location 6 miles down the street. A year later in 2012, they built their third MY SALON Suite in Sarasota, FL. And that’s when the franchise was born.
Between 2012 and 2015, MY SALON Suite expanded across North America. To drive the expansion throughout North America they partnered with Salon Plaza and using MY SALON Suite’s proven franchise system with Salon Plaza’s extensive salon operations experience over the last 25 years provides unmatched knowledge for new and existing franchise partners.
Since 2015, MY SALON Suite and Salon Plaza joined forces to create a salon suite franchising powerhouse with more than 160 locations open and operating, and another 300 under development in the United States and Canada
How is Suite Management Franchising Different From Its Competitors?
MY SALON Suite and Salon Plaza have broken the rule of traditional salons, proving to be just what stylists and their clients have been searching for. In our world—privacy, safety and cleanliness have become all too important to Americans and that’s what a salon suite franchise offers. Our health and beauty professionals still benefit from the synergy gained from working in close proximity to other beauty professionals, all while keeping themselves and their clients comfortable and safe, in a clean, beautiful and private environment.
Each franchise partner is essentially a landlord and business coach to hair stylists, massage therapists, estheticians, and others who want the opportunity to run their own business. While many Members hesitate to venture out on their own, we provide them a path to their dream. With thorough training and resources, our franchise partners operate with the knowledge, management skills and spaces needed to make independent beauty professionals more successful without the added stress of owning a traditional salon.
In addition to our suite design, our commitment to our Mission, Vision and Values show our dedication to supporting salon entrepreneurs. Imagine—there are over 40 people that wake up thinking about MY SALON Suite and Salon Plaza and how we can support our franchise partners and Members, to engage a community that inspires and nurtures salon entrepreneurs. Our community lives by these simple values; it's our FLAIR Commitment.
MY SALON Suite franchise partners come from all different ages and lifestyles, but one thing they all share is the common goal to cultivate FLAIR with a community of independent salon owners.
A New Era for Salon Pros
Salons and beauty services are a growing franchise sector – in fact, economic reports have shown the salon industry is growing at a rate of 8.5 percent annually.
What a huge opportunity for entrepreneurially minded individuals, whether you are looking to grow your current business venture or explore franchising as an option
What’s the explanation for the burst in popularity of salon suites over traditional salons: Ownership. The stylist is renting the private, enclosed space. All the stylists pay is rent. The remainder is business income.
These stylists are artists who have been dreaming of owning their own business for years. They’re passionate about visual elements and they are connected to their space. They’re interested in creating their own brand – whatever it may be. The salon suite atmosphere helps empower stylists to share who they are as individuals and connect deeply with the type of clients they wish to attract.
They’ve often worked themselves through the ranks, beginning at a budget-friendly salon in a more collaborative environment, renting out a chair and focusing on paying their dues to the salon. Eventually, their skills begin to speak for themselves and they develop even more passion for their craft. This sort of entrepreneurial ladder leads straight to salon suites. It’s not for everyone, but many have found great success as part of the salon suite concept.
